[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]On October 29th, at <\/span>Industrie Fluviali<\/span><\/b> in Rome, the fifth edition of the <\/span>EGC Student Challenge<\/span><\/b> came to a close \u2014 our annual event where students and business leaders meet and collaborate to shape the future.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s challenge? To propose an innovative idea capable of interpreting the new European industrial landscape. The fragmentation of value chains, the need to ensure energy security, and the accelerated spread of technologies such as artificial intelligence are pushing organizations to build production models that are <\/span>more resilient, circular, and human-centric<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Which strategies, solutions, and supply chains will be required to enable a European reindustrialization that promotes the development of innovative technologies and the efficient, sustainable, and inclusive management of critical products and materials \u2014 in line with the principles of <\/span>Industry 5.0<\/span><\/b>?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This year, <\/span>180 students from 20 universities<\/span><\/b> took part in the Challenge, presenting <\/span>50 projects<\/span><\/b> that explored the key challenges of European reindustrialization through concrete and actionable solutions. The proposals ranged from sustainable waste valorization to the optimization of production processes and energy consumption, with a shared focus on the integration of <\/span>digital technologies (AI, Blockchain)<\/span><\/b> and <\/span>environmental sustainability principles<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Among these, <\/span>four finalist teams<\/span><\/b> were selected, each presenting innovative ideas: from an industrial energy community to EV battery second-life systems, from circular fashion using bio-based materials to an upskilling platform designed to close the Industry 5.0 skills gap.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row bg_type=”bg_color” bg_color_value=”#f7f7f7″][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

THE FINALIST TEAMS & THEIR PROJECTS<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”sky”][vc_column_text css=””]Four teams, chosen from more than 50 submissions, presented their proposals in front of the jury and the audience \u2014 which, for the first time, also took part in the evaluation through a digital public vote.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Team Spark4Change<\/span><\/b> – <\/span>Annalisa Pacilio, Noemi Marrone, Rosa Pannone, Maria Celeste Sonatore
\nWith <\/span>\u201cEnergy Symbiosis Network 5.0: Smart Energy for Industrial Resilience\u201d<\/span><\/b>, the team proposed a platform that enables companies within the same industrial district to <\/span>share energy and recover waste heat<\/span><\/b>, transforming each site into an <\/span>energy prosumer<\/span><\/b>. A model that strengthens local resilience while contributing to the <\/span>decarbonization of manufacturing<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Team ReNatura<\/span><\/b> – Josh Trexler, Tehya Love McElroy, Sarah Weingarten
\nWith <\/span>\u201cTransform Food-Industry By-Products into Sustainable Textile & Leather Alternatives,\u201d<\/span><\/b> the team presented a <\/span>B2B business model based in Milan<\/span><\/b> that converts food-industry by-products (such as grape pomace, citrus peels, and coffee grounds) into <\/span>textile materials and plant-based leather alternatives<\/span><\/b>, promoting <\/span>local and circular supply chains<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Team CircularEV<\/span><\/b> – <\/span>Donato Gioia, Giovanni Madoni, Mattia Marino
\nThe project <\/span>\u201cCircularEV: AI & Blockchain for Second-Life Batteries\u201d<\/span><\/b> introduces a digital platform that <\/span>assesses, tracks, and re-routes end-of-life EV batteries toward new applications<\/span><\/b>, reducing waste and <\/span>accelerating the energy transition<\/span><\/b>. An approach that combines <\/span>technological innovation and sustainability<\/span><\/b>, redesigning circularity in the electric vehicle ecosystem.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Team Veloura<\/span><\/b> –\u00a0<\/span>Liah Cohen, Iida Silvola
\nThe project <\/span>\u201cTurning EU Skills Policy into Factory-Ready Talent\u201d<\/span><\/b> proposes a system that analyzes workforce data to <\/span>identify the skills companies require<\/span><\/b>, matching them with <\/span>European training programs<\/span><\/b>. A practical bridge between <\/span>EU policy and industrial operations<\/span><\/b>, designed to accelerate the preparation of the workforce needed for <\/span>Industry 5.0<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator css=””][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

THE DIALOGUE BETWEEN MANAGERS & STUDENTS<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n
