An opportunity to challenge yourself, work as a team with your peers, and connect with companies and universities – proposing innovative ideas to design the future of work in a multigenerational and rapidly evolving context.
CONTEXT & THEME
The world of work is changing rapidly. For the first time in history, six generations are working side by side, each with different skills and needs: younger generations seek workplaces that prioritize purpose, flexibility, and inclusion, while older generations, carriers of deep know-how, face the major challenge of digital transformation, with new technologies reshaping the way we learn, collaborate and create value, and skills becoming obsolete at record speed.
In this context, companies face increasingly complex challenges: talent retention, outdated training models, and fragmented corporate cultures.
In this scenario, generational diversity need not be an obstacle, on the contrary, it can be a strategic asset. Turning the generational gap into a competitive advantage requires new collaboration models, innovative knowledge transfer tools, and a vision of work that values every generation.
ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE: JOIN US, INNOVATE AND SHAPE THE FUTURE!
What is your idea to help organizations thrive in a multigenerational context?
Some questions your solution could address:
- Intergenerational Challenge: How can we redesign the way generations work together, moving beyond the notion of a “gap” and turning diversity into a competitive advantage? How should culture and processes evolve to ensure successful coexistence between different generations? How can career paths and organizational structures be redesigned to bring out the best in every generation?
- Skill Gap Challenge: In a multigenerational workplace, how can we build the skills of tomorrow while leveraging the expertise of today? How can training paths be redesigned to meet the needs of different generations (hard/soft skills gaps)? How can organizations attract and retain younger talent while preserving the competencies of senior employees?
- Knowledge Transfer Challenge: What tools, channels and learning models can effectively support intergenerational knowledge exchange (mentoring, microlearning, AI tools, …)? How can successful knowledge transfer be ensured (e.g. corporate culture, incentive systems, KPIs to measure effective knowledge transfer, …)?
GUIDELINES & RULES
The Student Challenge is open to teams of 2 – 4 university students (mixed teams from multiple universities are allowed). If you haven’t found your team yet but have a winning idea, register anyway and let us know – we’ll help you find your team!
The proposed solution must represent an innovative idea capable of helping organizations manage and leverage generational diversity, with a focus on tools, organizational models, processes and practices that foster collaboration, knowledge transfer, and skills development in multigenerational contexts.
Teams are asked to present a project of their choice, which may take the form of an initiative focused on qualitative impact, or a structured business idea with quantitative KPIs. In the latter case, the proposal must be accompanied by a complete business plan describing the solution, including for example: market analysis, solution description, sales plan, operational plan, financial analysis, risk assessment, social and environmental impact, etc. You are also encouraged to support your solution with any additional analysis you deem relevant!
The presentation of finalist projects will take place on 26 November (venue to be confirmed, with remote participation available if needed). Each team will have approximately 10 minutes, and support materials may be provided. Projects will be presented to a jury composed of top managers, consultants, journalists and professors from different generations. This diversity of perspectives fully reflects the spirit of the challenge, ensuring a direct exchange between the experience of today’s leaders and the innovative visions of students.
A PRIZE AND A CERTIFICATE FOR EVERY MEMBER OF THE FINALIST TEAMS
Stay tuned for upcoming details on the venue and jury members!
Projects will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
- Relevance to the theme: Does the idea contribute to bridging the generational gap and turning age and perspective diversity into a competitive advantage?
- Originality: Does the solution address the challenges of the modern workplace in a creative way, proposing innovative visions for inclusion and collaboration across generations?
- Feasibility and Scalability: How achievable is the idea? Does the proposal (whether an impact-driven initiative or a business idea) appear sustainable, concrete, and ready to grow within real organizational contexts?
- Innovation: What is the level of technological or methodological innovation? Does the solution leverage advanced tools (such as AI, microlearning or new mentoring models) to foster knowledge exchange?
- Social and Organizational Impact: Does the idea actively promote purpose-seeking, flexibility and equity in the workplace, improving talent retention and corporate culture?
- Presentation skills: Is the idea communicated clearly and effectively to the jury of top managers and professionals, supported by thorough analysis demonstrating its value?
